The Cockscomb Classic MTB
is starting in:

The Cockscomb Classic MTB and Trail Running Event - 08 May 2021

In April 2018 we had the inaugural Cockscomb Classic MTB on Bucklands Guest Farm in the Steytlerville district. In 2019 we grew, due to the amazing feedback of the first race, but 2021 is the BIG ONE!

Cockscomb Classic 2021 will see some major changes, as the 103km Conqueror is replaced with a 77km mountain route due to land owner issues. We also took the 77km Cockadoodle off the menu as the distance is the same, and, well, we don’t do boring!

The new route of the Conqueror will allow more riders to ride, it is not the challenge it was, it’s fun and do-able, but it is somewhat technical, not easy, and not for soft bums. The route follows amazing farm track, goes through the Hottentotspoort on a winding gravel road, and then over the Paardenberg on jeep track, ending with about 20 km of mostly down hill, kinder type of farm track, at the starting point on Bucklands. About a third of the race is on Freedom Challenge roads, it includes the famous Paardenberg, it is scenic, and has all the makings of a must do MTB race.

The new program leaves us with three races for the day, and a track for the kiddies. But there is more: We still have the two trail running events, over 5.5 km and 12.5 km, and the opportunity to do any of two combo’s, for those interested in a biathlon. So here is what you can enter in for:

  • The Chicken Run - 3km kiddies and fun ride.
  • The Hennebaloo - 27km of easy fun riding.
  • The Broiler Bash - 46km of easy, scenic, gravel roads.
  • The Conqueror - 77km of rough mountain country that will put you in the true mountain biker league, whilst having great fun!
  • The Kudu Route - 5.5km of farm track and scenic single track.
  • The Kolgans Route - 12km of farm track and scenic single track.
  • Combo of the Hennebaloo (27km) and the Kudu Route (5.5km). Total distance: 32,5km.
  • Combo of the Broiler Bash (46km) and the Kolgans Route (12km). Total distance: 58km.
